The Space

The former Lyric Theatre, located at 73 Victoria Street Bunbury (corner of Symmons Street and Victoria Street) was opened on 3rd April 1905, when the population of Bunbury was only 2,670. It was built by Hyam ‘Harry’ Weiss with his brothers and was named the “Lyric” after the London theatre where their mother had performed. It has had many varied uses over the years which has included theatre performances, silent films, talkies, dances, balls, band contests, skating, public functions, Bill Brown’s Furniture and even as a roller skating rink. The Old Lyric in it’s current reincarnation will make use of the whole upper level, bringing new life to an iconic Bunbury building for many years to come.
